Dorothea Annette Shay

Dorothea Annette Shay Gravestone
Dorothea Annette Shay was Episcopalian. She was ill with migraine headaches. An affliction that she passed on to her son Emery. Dot attended the Charles C. Perkins School on St. Botolph St in Boston and in 1920 taught in the public school system in NJ. She served on the School Board in Hudson NH from 1942 to 1952 and was also a Trustee of Alvirne High School. Dot was Past Matron in the Calvin Topliff Chapter No 18 Order of the Eastern Star in Freedom NH and served as Grand Representative of the New Hampshire Chapter to the Mississippi Grand Chapter, OES. She was past president of the Lynnfield Center MA Woman's Club; past president of the Effingham NH Woman's Club; past district director of the North Country State Women's Club; and Secretary of the Effingham NH Grange No 313 for 15 years. Her last column appeared in the February 17, 1972 edition - just after she died. She lived in Hudson NH from 1939-1952 before moving to Effingham NH, the boyhood home of her husband Allen. She lived in Effingham for the remainder of her life. For the very first time, in 1972, she and Allen went to Florida for the Winter.
